Introduction

At BallotReady, our mission is simple– to give all voters the personalized information they need to prepare to vote.

Take it from us that collecting, organizing and providing the research voters need on upcoming elections, positions and candidates on the ballot in local communities is a monumental task.

Each state, county and city is responsible for administering their own elections across a wide variety of positions and measures, and this requires regular collaboration between our Research team and thousands of elections offices across the country. On top of that, information on the candidates themselves can be even hard to find and requires both manual research and data scraping to be effective.

That’s why we invest heavily in a well-trained Research team every cycle and spend thousands of hours gathering this information– so your team doesn’t have to.

In this overview, learn more about our the team responsible for providing all the down ballot research that makes our Civic Center and Data Products possible.

We’ve spent over 20k research hours this cycle (and counting)

Each cycle, our team spends tens of thousands of hours working with local elections offices, researching candidates, and verifying our data. However, as you can see below, by investing in a well-trained team and new research tools we are also lowering costs for our customers while still expanding coverage.

Our Research team is big and well-trained

Keeping election data up to date takes thousands of hours each year. That’s why BallotReady has a team of 46 dedicated researchers all of whom have completed TalentLMS training. This includes over 600 hours in training to ensure they’re prepared to collect, analyze, organize, and verify data from every election office in America.

To get a complete picture of an election cycle, our Research team:

  • Calls, emails, and faxes elections offices, SOS offices, local clerks, local administrators, school boards, and GIS firms to get updated data sets

  • Scours the internet to gather data on candidates and current officeholders from campaign websites, social media, government sites, and more

  • Digs through municipal codes, election results, newspaper articles, public meeting minutes, and more

  • Files Freedom of Information Act requests

  • Spends hours on quality assurance for all the data collected
